Although it is past the usual New Year’s resolution timeframe, and people’s resolutions are likely forgotten by now, I’ve been thinking about what makes a good life. Each of my books includes recipes of food that the characters have eaten.

. . . Which led me to think about what makes a person’s successful life. I hope it reminds you of what you intend for your life’s plan!

Ingredients:

Water, for proper hydration

Air, as clean as possible

Food, in sufficient quantity, nutritional value, and good tasting

Sleep, to rest and keep your body functional

Shelter, to provide the above and adaptable as changes occurMixing

Joy, to provide spice in life

Happiness, to create your best approach to the world

Patience, for reaching goals and dealing with others

Understanding, to work well with others and to learn

Success, in whatever way you define it

Love, to sustain you, for others and yourself

Friendship, to provide mutual companionship

Family, as available

Resources, to help yourself and others – (Resources include funds, money, skills,

and other tangible and intangible items that help you achieve what you need.)

Note: Quantities are flexible

What you need:

Comfort

Education

Motivation

Curiosity

Flexibility/Adaptability

Inspiration

Goals

Time

Directions:

Start with the first four ingredients, then add the others as needed, until you reach a sense of your life’s plan. Mix in the friendships and family. Cultivate and apply “what you need” to provide the best life you can create.

Change directions as needed. Remember to do something positive for yourself and others every day.

Serves: one person and everyone they know

Enjoy!

Note: Somewhat inspired by Maslow’s Hierarchy of Need

I hope this list provides everyone with a sense of satisfaction. Is there anything you’d add to the list?
