What gives you pleasure?
It could be something as simple as licking an ice cream cone on a hot day. Or, someone thanking you for your help on a project. And, most wonderfully, from the perspective of romance writing, hearing someone say, “I love you.”
Writing my Louisa’s Vineyard series romances gives me pleasure. Its appeal encompasses all of my senses. As I touch the keyboard and put words on an electronic page, there’s both a visceral and visual feeling as the words develop and create images. Scents activate my sense of smell, like food cooking with aromas wafting in the air. Dialogue makes people come alive, noises provoke reactions, and atmosphere is the final touch for memorable scenes.
Beyond the usual senses, the sixth sense is a subtle addition to my characters’ lives. Louisa has the gift, and sometimes the curse, of “seeing,” both events in the past and future. She cannot predict what she’ll see, but it often serves as reassurance for the people involved. This paranormal sense is one that those close to Louisa appreciate and trust.
